Kathmandu, Sept 1 – Nepal registered its first win against Malaysia by 19 runs in its third match of the Asia Cup Qualifiers 2018 underway in the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia today.
With this triumph, Nepal has scored two points. Earlier, Nepal had lost to Oman by seven wickets, and to United Arab Emirates by 78 runs.
In today’s match, chasing the target of 189 runs set by Nepal, Malaysia was all out with only 169 runs in the allotted 30 overs.
Basanta Regmi took three wickets for Nepal, while Sompal Kami and Sandip Lamichhane claimed two each. Likewise, Sagar Pun and Dipendra Singh Airee took one each. For Malaysia, Muhammad Anwar hit 34 runs, while Syed Aziz 34, Ahmad Faiz 22 and Virandeep Singh 21. Likewise, Sharvin Muniandy made 10 runs.
Invited to bat first after losing the toss, Nepal made 188 runs in 30 overs. Half a century each by Arif Shesh (64 n.o.) and Dipendra Singh Airee (54) helped Nepal build a challenging total. Captain Paras Khadka contributed 13 runs, while Anil Kumar Sah scored 16 and Gyanendra Malla 11. The allotted 50 overs was reduced to 30 due to rains.
Nepal will now play against Singapore on Sunday.
