BIMSTEC member countries’ Heads of State and Heads of Government welcomed

Kathmandu, Aug 30 – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has welcomed the Heads of State or of Governments of the member states of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

The Prime Minister welcomed the special dignitaries from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand arriving in Kathmandu to take part in the fourth BIMSTEC Summit taking place here from today. The Prime Minister extended hearty welcome to them in a tweet message today.

PM Oli has also expressed the belief that the BIMSTEC Fourth Summit would motivate the sub-regional organisation towards peace, sustainable development and prosperity.

Indian PM Modi arrives

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the capital this morning in connection with taking part in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Fourth Summit.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel welcomed him at the VVIP lounge of Tribhuvan International Airport. A contingent of Nepalese Army presented a guard of honour to the Indian Prime Minister.
Chief of Protocol Deepak Adhikari, India’s ambassador for Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri and Chief of the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi Bharat Kumar Regmi were also welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport.

Thai Prime Minister arrives

Prime Minister of Thailand Prayut Chan-o-cha has arrived here to attend the Fourth Summit meeting of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). He arrived this morning.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel received him at Tribhuvan International Airport. A contingent of Nepalese Army had presented a guard of honour to the Thai dignitary.

Chief of Protocol Deepak Adhikari, Thailan’d ambassador to Nepal Bhakavat Tanskul and Nepal’s ambassador to Thailand Khaganath Adhikari also welcomed the Thai Prime Minister.

PM Oli meets his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina

Kathmandu, Aug. 30 – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina have held a bilateral meeting today.

Prime Minister of Bangladesh Hasina, who arrived in Kathmandu this morning to attend the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit, met with PM Oli on the sideline of the BIMSTEC Summit. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, different aspects of Nepal-Bangladesh relations were discussed during the meeting.

Besides the issues relating to BIMSTEC Summit, the areas of mutual interests and concerns were discussed during the meeting between the two prime ministers, it is said.

President Bhandari hosting luncheon in honour of BIMSTEC’s VVIP Guests

President Bidya Devi Bhandari is hosting the luncheon in honour of the Heads of State and Government of BIMSTEC Member States at Shital Niwas, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, the Heads of State and Heads of the Government of six other member nations of BIMSTEC had reached the President House, Shital Niwas, for the joint meeting with President Bhandari. The VVIP guests are in Kathmandu to attend the Fourth BIMSTEC Summit to be held here from today.

President Bhandari’s advisor Sushil Pyakurel and the Secretary at the Office of the President Binod KC welcomed the VVIP guests from Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand to the Shital Niwas.

The Head of State of Nepal will host a lunch reception in honour of the visiting VVIPs. The event will be attended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the high-ranking officials from Nepal.
