Chitwan, June 11 – Process for the construction of railways in the country has been forwarded in a speedy manner.
Process for the construction of East-West, Kerung-Kathmandu, Birgunj-Kathmandu railways and cross border connectivity at five places of bordering of India has been accelerated. With this, construction of Jaynagar-Janakpur railway has reached to its final phase and railway service would be operated along this railway from coming fiscal year, said officials of Department of Railways.
Talking to media persons at Bharatpur today, Senior Divisional Engineer at the Department of Railways, Prakash Upadhyay said that construction task of 70-km Jalpayugudi-Kakadvitta, 18-km Jogbani-Biratnagar, 70-km Jaynagar-Bardibas, 17-km Nautunawa-Bhairahawa and 12-km Rupadiya-Nepalgunj railways under cross border connectivity has moved ahead with the support of Indian government.
He said that 80 per cent construction task of 18-km Jogbani-Biratnagar railway has been completed while construction of 35-km Jaynagar-Kurta would be completed within coming October.
Similarly, survey of Nautunawa-Bhairahawa and Rupadiya-Nepalgunj is being carried out. Construction task of Mechi Mahakali electric railway, which is considered as the project of national pride, has been accelerated. Task for the preparation of detailed project report of this railway would be completed within coming November. The length of Mechi Mahakali railway would be around 945 km. A total of eight tunnels would be constructed along this railway.
Likewise, process for the construction of around 100-km Kerung-Kathmandu railway has been forwarded. A team of Chinese technicians had carried out onsite study in this regard and the team will prepare a report soon.
Upadhyay said that construction of around 800 meters railway from India to dry port of Birgunj has already been completed. The Indian side accelerated the construction task after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s India visit. He added that feasibility study of Kathmandu-Pokhara-Lumbini has already been conducted. The government of China has shown its interest for the construction of this railway.
