Gautam Buddha Airport to operate in a year

  

Kathmandu, May 21 – The government has announced to bring the Gautam International Airport into operation by completing the ongoing construction works within a year.
In the government policy and programme unveiled by President Bidya Devi Bhandari in the joint meeting of the Houses today, commitment has been made to bring the airport into operation by the end of the fiscal year.
So far, 40 per cent of the construction work of the airport has been completed.
According to the chief of project Om Sharma, construction works of the airport would complete within a year as the construction works have been expedited.
It is said that runway, terminal building, tower and other works have reached the final stage of the construction.
Sharma said runway, parking lot and terminal building would be completed by November 2018 adding that blacktopping of the runway would begin from September and it would be completed within six months maximum.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal are investing Rs 7 billion for the airport construction which is expected to promote tourism and prepare a base for economic prosperity.
Likewise, the government’s policy and programmes has stated to expedite the construction works of Pokhara Regional International Airport.
Chinese company CAMC Engineering Company has pledged to finish the construction works of the airport within four years.
Likewise, the CAAN has also given more emphasis to complete the projects in the given deadline following the government commitment.
CAAN Director General Sanjib Gautam said that the CAAN was serious to complete the construction works of the under-construction airport in the slated dates. “The CAAN would make maximum efforts to meet the government target and translate the government’s thoughts,” Gautam shared.
Furthermore, the government’s policy and programme has stated to begin the construction works of the second international airport to be developed at Nijgadh of Bara.
Similarly, the government’s policy and programme includes restructuring, upgradation and expansion of air service, air routes and Tribhuvan International Airport.
