NC condemns Indian lawmaker Azad’s remarks

Kathmandu, May 14 – The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has stated that its attention was drawn towards the controversial remarks made against the sovereignty of Nepal by Indian lawmaker Kirti Azad.
NC has taken a strong exception to the remark as the Indian parliamentarian who last week (during the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State visit to Nepal) had twitted that Janakpur should be made a part of India and urged Indian PM Modi to take back the historical and cultural city from Nepal to merge it into India.

In a statement, NC described Azad’s remark as an attack on Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national prestige aimed at hurting the age-old ties existing between the two countries.
The NC has further stated that the party strongly condemns the remarks adding that it was intolerable to Nepal.

According to chief secretary of the party central office Krishna Prasad Poudel, NC has also urged the government to take diplomatic initiative to this end.
