NC holds internal discussions in regard with preparations for NA election

Kathmandu, Jan 15 – The major ruling party Nepal Congress started intra-party discussions regarding the preparations for the National Assembly (NA) election scheduled for February 7.

Party’s top leaders today held preliminary discussions about party’s preparations for the NA election, process for candidates’ nominations and collaboration with other political parties.

In the meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, party’s senior leaders touched on the issues relating to the announcement of chiefs and temporary centers of provinces/States, as said by party Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma. Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is likely to announce chiefs and temporary centers of provinces through an upcoming meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Earlier, he had held discussions with various political parties in a bid to take decisions on the matters on the basis of political consensus. The appointment of chiefs of provinces before the NA election is mandatory by the law.

State Assembly members shall take oath from a chief of respective province to vote in the NA election, according to the Election Commission.

The NC is also learnt to have been making preparations for summoning the central committee meeting soon to review the ‘ unexpected’ results party achieved in the recent elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies.

Party president Deuba, senior leader Ramchandra Poudel, General Secretary Dr Sashank Koirala and former General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula were present in the meeting.
