Nepal holds bilateral consultations with Switzerland

Kathmandu, June 16 – The second meeting of Nepal-Switzerland bilateral consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Nepal and Federal Department for Foreign Affairs (FDFA) of Switzerland was held in Bern, Switzerland on Thursday.

Joint Secretary and Head of Europe America Division of the Ministry Ghanshyam Bhandari and Ambassador Assistant State Secretary for Asia and Pacific at the FDFA Johannes Matyassy led the respective delegations, according to the Nepali Embassy in Geneva.

The two sides reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations and discussed the possibilities of enhancing cooperation in areas of trade, investment, tourism and consular cooperation. They also deliberated on the issues of multilateral cooperation including migration, human security, climate change and mountain partnership.

Other members of Nepali delegation were Under Secretary at Ministry of Finance Tek Bahadur Khatri, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Nepal in Geneva Mr. Suresh Adhikari, and Under Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lakshuman Khanal. The Swiss delegation included Raphael Nageli, designate Assistant Secretary for Asia/Pacific, Mr. Pietro Mona, Ambassador for Development, Forced Displacement and Migration, Ms. Nathalie Semoroz, Deputy Head of South Asia and Conflict and Human Rights Division from FDFA as well as Mr. Diepak Elmer, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Switzerland in Kathmandu, among others.

The first Nepal-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations were held in Kathmandu on 30 May 2016.
