Kathmandu, Sept 13 – Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Co-Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has assured to take initiative to address the demands raised by the British Gurkhas.
Addressing a programme ‘Continuity of granting Nepali citizenship to British Gorkha ex-Army and their families and capital flight’ organized here today, he said efforts would be made to address the demands of giving continuity to grant citizenship as well facilities to the British Gurkhas.
“The Nepal Constitution does not have any provision to seize the citizenship obtained based on descent. You are the Nepali citizens. The government will address your demands”, he said.
British Gurkhas are Nepali based on nationality, Dahal said, adding there are no major bottlenecks on legal and constitutional issues.
“This is not only the concern of ex-Gurkhas but of all Nepalis. Though the 1947 Agreement between Nepal, India and Britain had established the right of equality between British Army and Nepali Army, complaints regarding inadequacy of some laws were gradually addressed and some are yet to be achieved’.
